CyclingSanta Cruz:The only asphalted road begins in Puerto Ayora and crosses the island to the Channel of Itabaca, just in front of Baltra Island, it is about 41 Km. The closest village is Bellavista located at 7 km. of Puerto Ayora, from there at 13 km you will find Santa Rosa, the other village on the Island of Santa Cruz. There is a dirt road behind the School of Tomas de Berlanga at 4.5 km from Puerto Ayora, which take you to Ballavista. From there you can continue to the right and will find two different trails, one will take you to the population of Camote and the other to Cascajo. If you continue this one, you will end up at the parking lot of the Beach Garrapatero. In the sector of Santa Rosa are two dirt roads, the first one on the left hand side of the coliseum of Santa Rosa, this one will take you to farms where you can see Giant Tortoises. The second trail you will find if you continue straight ahead for the Entrance of Santa Rosa, it will lead you to a population called Salasaca, where you could visit the tourist farms with the natural lava tunnels. Consider to hire a taxi to get to the far away places and then continue by bike. San Cristobal:In San Cristobal Cycling as a tourist activity takes places in the Highlands, you can choose between rent a bicycle or going on a guided tour. Follow the signalization located on the side of the roads. The road which goes to the town of Progresso is asphalted until the town, further down the trail is still paved until you reach the tourist site El Junco. Another option is that you take the “Y” (left turn) in the town of Progresso until you get to the School. Continue to the top of Cerro Soledad where you have a magnificent view and you can observe a huge range of different birds from San Cristobal. Isabela:In Isabela, to rent a bike is the best way to get to know the Highland – an area less known from Galapagos. Passing the ancient original colonies of the island and visit the farms. This gives you the opportunity to learn a lot about the history and culture of the Isabelenos. You can also visit the Humedales and the Wall of Tears by bike. Because of the very less circulation in Puerto Villamil you will have a tranquil day on your bicycle.
