Kayaks & Surf

Kayak

Kayaking, windsurfing and surfing are activities allowed in the limited of the Galapagos Marine Reserve. One of the best ways to be in contact with the tranquility of the nature is to practice kayak. Santa Cruz offer fabulous sites to realize this activity: From the Channel of Itabaca in the north of the Island, you can go for adventure, observing sea turtles, blue footed boobies, and pelicans.
You can also visit Punta Estrada from Puerto Ayora, a little beach easy accessible on high tide. After that you can paddle to the Channel of the Tintoreras and the Channel of Love, where the wildlife and the birds are waiting for you.

In Puerto Ayora are some agencies which offer tours, a guide will accompany you to different sites.

In Isabela you also can find a perfect ambient to do kayak. You can rent a kayak and passing by sites like Las Tintoreras and Concha de Perla. Paddling in the coastal zone of the island will offer you better contact with the nature and you can see white tip sharks, penguins, sea lions and different sorts of birds.

Surfing

Santa Cruz is a good site to practice surfing during the whole year, with big waves which arrives from the south between April and October, but also from the north between November and May. There are various sites where you can practice this sport: At the end of the Charles Darwin Station you will find: La Ratonera and Bazan. In the zone of Punta Estrada you will find Piedra Ahogada, Punto Lobo, La Chupadora and Tres Picos. If you take a little boat for approximately 20 minutes from the town you get to Pinta Nunez and Ola Escondida.

After a walk of 2.5 km. from the College of Galapagos (Av. Baltra and Charles Binford) you will arrive at Tortuga Bay, where you can surf in the waves of Manglecito or El Pelado. Traveling on a boat for almost an hour you will find ideal places for surf like: Punta Blanca, Cerro Gallina, Las Palmas Chica and Las Palmas Grande.

On the north side of the Island you can take a little boat from the Channel Itabaca and you will get to Baltra Island. There you can enjoy the waves of La Salinas and Punta Barba Negra. Other sites including the Angermeyer Beach, Islote, Faro, Taonera and Punta Nunez (in the Bay of Puerto Ayora).

Isabela also offer some magnificent beaches to practice surf, ideal sites for all level of this incredible sport.

However, San Cristobal offers the best places and the best waves for lovers of surf. You can enjoy this sport on sites like: La Loberia, Tango Reef, Outer Reef, El Canon, Punta Carola, El Manglercito etc.
