Trekking & eviromental guidenessOn the islands of Santa Cruz exist various places where you can go trekking, like the trails to Las Grietas, Tortuga Bay or The Beach of Garrapatero on the coastal zone, as well as in the Highlands you can choose from different options.One trail begins at the village of Bellavista (7 km from Puerto Ayora) which takes you close by farmer areas, on the border to National Park territory. The trail is located in the Miconia zone and gets to some of the biggest hills of the island like: Media Luna, Puntudo and Cerro Crocker. The distance from Bellavista to Media Luna is 5 km and from there to Puntudo and Cerro Crocker close to 3 km. There you can find birds lake the Darwin Finch and Pachay, bunch of flowers you can not find on other islands. Try to not destroy the nest of the Petreles of Galapagos or the pata pegada, nocturne birds which only can nest in this specific place. This hike only is recommended if the weather is good, during the rain season the trails are very humid and slippery. In Isabela various trails for hiking exist, to start with the beautiful 3 km white sandy beach. There are also trails in Puerto Villamil to the Humedales and the Highland.
